Wellness Wednesday: Healthy Cooking Essentials – Zester



Cooking at home can seem daunting, but can improve your health and save you money in the long run. In this series we will take a look at kitchen utensils and gadgets that can make cooking at home easier.

Today’s gadget is the zester. If you have a multi-plane box grater, you may not need a zester, but if you only have a larger holed grater I highly recommend the zester. You can use it to zest the skin of limes, lemons and oranges to add to marinades and dressings, or last minute to pasta dishes to give it a fruity bite. It can also be used to easily grate ginger or garlic for stir fry or Middle Eastern dishes, to grate fresh nutmeg and cinnamon for a variety of dishes or desserts. It can even be used to zest chocolate ribbons for dessert or to top parfaits. If you’re looking for ways to use fresher ingredients to season your food then I highly recommend getting a zester.
