Cooking at home can seem daunting, but can improve your health and save you money in the long run. In this series we will take a look at kitchen utensils and gadgets that can make cooking at home easier.
Today’s gadget is the salad spinner. While a colander is great for draining pasta or washing produce , it isn’t always the best choice for green leafy veggies. There’s nothing more frustrating than soggy lettuce for your salad or on your sandwich. A salad spinner doesn’t just drain the water, but actually propels more water off and faster. You can also use it to help get more moisture off other produce with more crevices and surface area, like fresh berries. Not only does it make your immediate meal taste better, but removing as much moisture can also help the leaves stay fresher for longer. Wash a whole head of lettuce, spin it and store it in a semi sealed (or micro-perforated) bag with a piece of paper towel to soak up any remaining moisture. It’ll be clean and ready to use, plus helps your budget and your waistline!
