Today’s gadget is the garlic press. This is a great tool to get if you are looking to start seasoning with fresh garlic in place of salt or fat. It easily presses garlic with one squeeze to save you the time of mincing the garlic. There is some suggestion that pressing is actually the best way to get the most benefits from garlic which include boosting immunity, reducing blood pressure, reducing cholesterol, and antioxidants which may help reduce the risk of dementia and Alzheimers. Prepackaged garlic can contain oil or other preservatives and the property allicin only lasts for a brief period after the garlic has been minced or crushed. This particular version retails for about $16, but there are cheaper versions on Amazon – many of which include a peeler tube which can help you remove the skin easily before pressing.
